Minister Fast Tours Pacific GeoTech Systems Facilities

Today, The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, embarked on a tour of Pacific GeoTech Systems Ltd. (PGTS) facilities. During his visit, Minister Fast engaged in insightful discussions with Andy Lang, President; Eugen Toaxen, CEO; and Barry McPeake, Director of Business Development at PGTS. The focus of the conversation revolved around how the Government of Canada’s export tools have played a pivotal role in propelling the company to international success..

PGTS has made extensive use of the diverse array of tools provided through the Government of Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan (GMAP). These tools empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to expand their businesses on the global stage. As a valued client of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), both in Canada and across regions like Latin America and Africa, PGTS has actively participated in Minister Fast’s August 2014 trade mission to Colombia and Peru. Furthermore, the company has forged fruitful partnerships with the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) in Latin America. Notably, in 2012, PGTS collaborated with CCC to secure a competitive contract with Colombia’s National Mining Agency for an integrated mining management system.

The Minister announced a significant development under Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2015, earmarking $50 million over five years for direct financial assistance to Canadian SMEs. This funding is aimed at facilitating market research and participation in trade missions, potentially assisting between 500 and 1,000 Canadian entrepreneurs annually in realizing their full export potential.

Through GMAP, the Harper Government has undertaken economic diplomacy with a comprehensive approach to exporting, ushering in a transformative era for Canada’s trade promotion endeavors. This approach prioritizes Canadian businesses, especially SMEs, by ensuring they receive comprehensive support and services necessary to thrive in global markets.

Based in Victoria, British Columbia, PGTS specializes in developing and deploying online, map-based enterprise systems. These solutions cater to government agencies responsible for regulating the development of natural resources, with a particular focus on mining and oil and gas extraction, within their respective jurisdictions. For almost two decades, PGTS systems have played a pivotal role in upholding transparency, accountability, and corporate social responsibility in the extractive industries. The company has demonstrated remarkable expertise in this domain within Canada and is actively seeking to extend its capabilities and experiences to regions such as Peru and Colombia, thereby contributing to the progress of Latin America.
