Ontario Ministry Contracts PGTS for MLAS Mining Cadastre Development Under MAM
As part of phase three of the Mining Act Modernization (MAM), the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM) has partnered with Pacific Geotech Systems (PGTS) to embark on a transformative journey and develop a powerful and complex online cadastre system. In June 2012, PGTS was entrusted with the design, development, and implementation of the Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) using our award-winning truePermitTM platform, in what has become a tremendously ambitious project aimed at modernizing one of the world’s largest mining jurisdictions.
Ontario’s mining landscape, characterized by its extensive activity, posed significant challenges. The existing management systems were fragmented, inconsistent, and plagued by backlogs. To address this, the Ontario Government introduced the Mining Act Modernization (MAM) framework, emphasizing stakeholder consultation with the mining industry and Indigenous communities whose Areas of Interest (AOI) were affected. This led to an intricate project scope with constant evolution and numerous changes.
MLAS stands as a testament to innovation and the power of collaboration between PGTS and the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. In its final version, the system’s key components will include a client self-service and application submission portal, title acquisition and management registry, early exploration permitting system, and an incident and inspections management, including an auditing component. Notably, the solution will operate seamlessly in both English and French, and it will score a remarkable achievement in modernizing complex systems and ensuring efficient, transparent, and accessible mining administration.
